Monday- Uncle Ben has 440 chickens on his farm. 39 are roosters and the rest are hens. 15 of his hens do not lay eggs. The rest lay eggs. How many egg-laying hens does Uncle Ben have on his farm? (Use rounding to the nearest ten to solve this problem.)
Tuesday- Yesterday, we watched the solar eclipse. Write 5 complete sentences about what you noticed or learned about the eclipse.
Wednesday- In your reading tonight, please write: the Title of you book, the main characters, the setting, and what is the most interesting part of your book.

Homework notebook

Homework for August 7 – August 11, 2017
Monday- Create a T-chart and list at least 5 common nouns and on the other side at least 5 proper nouns.
Tuesday- Mrs. Gray wants to go shopping. She has $50 in her bank account. She would like to buy a dress that is $15, shoes that are $18, and a new bag that is $23. Using rounding, does she have enough money to buy everything? Please be sure to show your work and explain how you got your answer.
Wednesday- We have been learning about the 6 major rivers of the US. Please write a story tonight about an adventure that you took on one of the rivers. (Hudson, Rio Grande, Colorado, Mississippi, Ohio, and the St. Lawrence) Please make sure that you have at least 5 sentences and that you are meeting all of the correct writing criteria.
Thursday- Remind your parents that tonight is Open House from 6-8 at Sanders. What is ONE thing that you wish your teacher knew about you? Write a letter explaining this to your teacher. (It does not have to be long, just give enough information that I know what you are wanting me to know.)

Week 1

This week's homework will be a "getting to know you" activity. Students will bring home a packet "All About Me" composition book. They will have until Friday to complete this and return it to class. Please remind them to do their best work, because this gives me a great idea about each one of them!!! Also, their homework for the week is to make sure that you have signed up for ClassDojo and completed any paperwork that is sent home.

Homework Notebook

Parents,
I will be doing something different this school year when it comes to weekly homework. I know in the past that other teachers will send home a packet at the beginning of the week, but I want to cut down on as many copies as possible (less chance for students to misplace their work). Math homework will come home daily based on the material that we have learned on that day. In addition, your student be keeping up with a homework notebook weekly. On Monday they will receive the assignment that will be glued into their notebook for the week. They will be expected to work on ONE assignment daily in their notebook that will help reflect over materials we have been working on in the different subject areas. I will also post them on the blog weekly for those that might be absent or "forget" their notebook at school/home. Please note that this is the first year that I am implementing this notebook, so we will be working out the issues as we go. Do not hesitate if there are issues or difficulty, because as a team we work together and make the best for the students!

Looking forward to a GREAT year working with you all!!!
Mrs. Gray
